John Laing Establishes Asian Presence to Fuel Overseas GrowthTuesday, May 13, 2008 John Laing, plc, the specialist provider of facilities through public private partnerships, today announces the appointment of three senior posts in Singapore and India. This new presence in the Asian markets underlines the company’s commitment to international growth and builds on its existing offices in Canada and Central Europe, as well as the UK. The Indian and Asia Pacific markets provide the opportunity to fuel the growth of the business and the new offices will be tasked with accessing a pipeline of projects with local partners over the coming years. John Laing has already built an enviable record for proactive market positioning and an impressive success rate. Its understanding of the relationship of how private and public sectors can work together has been established in the UK, the country which has led the way with PPP and it is now establishing a platform for growth in new international markets. This new Asia team will be led by Gary Lucas who will be based in Singapore. Also based in Singapore, Anthony Phillips has been appointed Senior Investment Manager for Asia Pacific and will take responsibility for this market. He will focus upon the identification and pursuit of infrastructure investment opportunities in the region. Anthony's role includes establishing partnership agreements with local and international contractors for upcoming PPP projects as well as examining potential secondary market acquisitions. Anthony has been working in PPP for over five years and has worked across a range of sectors. Prior to relocating to Singapore, Anthony headed up the project finance team within John Laing’s Business Development division and led the consortium to achieve financial close on the Pembury Acute Hospital PFI earlier this year. Prior to joining John Laing, Anthony worked in Chartered Accountancy focusing upon corporate restructuring and project based assignments in Australia and South East Asia. Peter Jones will be setting up John Laing’s first Indian office in Gurgaon, Haryana (near Delhi). His role is to build a team and secure opportunities on the subcontinent. He will be capitalising on the efforts John Laing has made in India over the past 18 months and establishes an essential presence on Indian soil. An Indian subsidiary was incorporated in India on February 6th 2008. The company will initially concentrate on bidding in the National Highways Authority of India BOT Roads Programme, but Peter's role will also include establishing close business relationships with local partners and looking forward to other sectors and opportunities.
